Art Class for students grades 1-8 – Introduces younger students to different kinds of materials while working on various projects. Students will work on molded-plaster masks, metal embossing, clay sculpture, Chinese brush painting, acrylic painting, cut paper collage and two-dimensional art using oil pastels and soft, colored pencils.
Studio Art – This course will explore the fundamental principles of design and drawing and perfecting these skills. This course is a beginner’s course.
AP Studio Art – Students will create artwork for their AP portfolios. The portfolios share a basic, three-section structure: one section of 5 original works, one section of 12 theme-based digital images, and one section of 12 digital images evaluated on technique. This course will address three major concerns that are constants in the teaching of art: (1) a sense of quality in a student’s work; (2) the student’s concentration on a particular visual interest or problem; and (3) the student’s need for breadth of experience in the formal, technical and expressive means of the artist. If the portfolio submission receives a 3 or above students also earn college credit for this class.
