DA Weekly Update 5/17/12

Important Announcements

  • DA Graduation is fast approaching. All seniors who are graduating from DA should email Mrs. Green at suzanne.green@dominionacademy.org to verify the the spelling of their name and their preferred name format to be printed on their diploma.
  • Urgent Volunteer Need:  DA is in need of someone take over the role of school Sam’s Club Shopper. The ideal candidate is someone  with a Sam’s account, or willing to obtain a Sam’s account, that can be validated as business account for making tax exempt purchases. Training will be provided. If you are interested in this ongoing volunteer opportunity, contact Mr. Figueroa at andy.figueroa@dominionacademy.org as soon as possible.
  • DA will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.
  • IOWA tests scores are ready to be picked up by parents only in the main office.   If desired, Sandy McNamara is available by appointment for assistance with interpreting scores.  Please contact Mrs. Green at (937) 224-8555 to schedule an appointment.

Senior Ball

Event Location and Parking

This year’s Senior Ball will be held on Friday, May 18 from 6pm-11pm at the Dayton Woman’s Club located at 225 North Ludlow Street (map).  Parking is located at the PMI lot just north of the Dayton Woman’s Club.  Do not park in any other lot as your car could be towed.

Ball Pictures

Briana Snyder Photography will be available to take photographs of ball attendees from 5:30 until 6:15pm. If pictures at other locations are desired, please contact Mrs. Fehrman at fehrmanb@gmail.com. Fees should be paid at the time of sitting.

DA Student Art and Photography Show

On Wednesday, May 23, from 3:15pm-5pm, the DA Studio Art and Photography students will be hosting their end of year art show. Please plan to join them in the DA atrium as they share the fruits of their labor from this school year.  Refreshments will be served.

10th Annual Non-Western History Car Wash

On Thursday, May 24 from 9:30am-4:oopm the Non-Western History class will hold their annual car wash to benefit the African Goat Project. Help support our student’s desire to make a difference. Cost: a donation amount of your choice.

Intramural Soccer Tournament Information

The 2012 Intramural Tournament Games will begin on Saturday, May 19 at Action Sports Center.  Game #1 will be the Narwhals vs. the Holligians game from 1pm-2pm.  Game#2 will be the Wiggles vs. the Falcons game from 2pm-3pmBring your own water bottle and a pair of gym shoes in case of a thunderstorm.

The 2012 Final Soccer Tournament Games will be held on Friday, May 25 from 4pm-6pm at Action Sports Center.  There will be a Picnic and Awards Ceremony from  6-6:45pm with a Parent/Staff/Alumni Game vs. Students from 6:45-7:30pm.  Student Government will provide hot dogs, burgers, and drinks.  Please bring a side dish to share and your own dinnerware and utensils.

DAPA Meeting

All interested parents are invited to attend the next scheduled DAPA Meeting onTuesday, May 29 at 7pm.  Elections will be held for next school year. The meeting will be held at DA.  Contact Mr. Geoff Akers at akersgkajm@yahoo.com for more information.

DA Commencement

Commencement will be Sunday, June 3 at 3pm at Christ the King Anglican Church. There will also be a reception right after commencement in the atrium. Please plan to come and honor our seniors as they step out into the big, big world!

International Students

If you know of any international students who might interested in attending DA for a period of up 4 years, or if you are interested in hosting a J-1 Foreign Exchange student for a period of one year, please email Dss. Caldwell at michelle.caldwell@dominionacademy.org.

Yearbook Photos Needed

Photos of DA Activities are needed for the DA 2011-2012 yearbook. Please send your photos of any DA activity that has occurred this school year to Mr. Veley at dayearbook@covad.net. Or if you prefer, you may also make other arrangements with Mr. Veley.

Community Event

A World A’Fair, Dayton’s International Festival is scheduled to take place at the Dayton Convention Center on Friday, May 18  from 5pm-11pm,  Saturday, May 18 from 11am-11pm, and Sunday, May 20 f rom 11am-6pm. It is especially meaningful because the CKREC Refugee ministry has worked with the Burundian community in the neighborhood and the Burundians are going to have a booth this year. Giving them our support by showing up at the booth is a wonderful way to show our love for these people who for many years have been marginalized.
