• Urgent Volunteer Need:  DA is in need of someone take over the role of school Sam’s Club Shopper. The ideal candidate is someone  with a Sam’s account, or willing to obtain a Sam’s account, that can be validated as business account for making tax exempt purchases. Training will be provided. Event Location and Parking

This year’s Senior Ball will be held on Friday, May 18 from 6pm-11pm at the Dayton Woman’s Club located at 225 North Ludlow Street (map).  Parking is located at the PMI lot just north of the Dayton Woman’s Club.  Do not park in any other lot as your car could be towed.

On Wednesday, May 23, from 3:15pm-5pm, the DA Studio Art and Photography students will be hosting their end of year art show. Please plan to join them in the DA atrium as they share the fruits of their labor from this school year.  Refreshments will be served.

On Thursday, May 24 from 9:30am-4:oopm the Non-Western History class will hold their annual car wash to benefit the African Goat Project. Help support our student’s desire to make a difference. Cost: a donation amount of your choice.

Intramural Soccer Tournament Information

The 2012 Intramural Tournament Games will begin on Saturday, May 19 at Action Sports Center.  Game #1 will be the Narwhals vs. the Holligians game from 1pm-2pm.  Game#2 will be the Wiggles vs. the Falcons game from 2pm-3pm.  Bring your own water bottle and a pair of gym shoes in case of a thunderstorm.

The 2012 Final Soccer Tournament Games will be held on Friday, May 25 from 4pm-6pm at Action Sports Center.  There will be a Picnic and Awards Ceremony from  6-6:45pm with a Parent/Staff/Alumni Game vs. Students from 6:45-7:30pm.  Student Government will provide hot dogs, burgers, and drinks.  Please bring a side dish to share and your own dinnerware and utensils.

DAPA Meeting

Volunteer Needs

• Amy Willmann is in need of a volunteer to take charge of making lemonade and iced tea for the Gala on April 27.This volunteer would need to be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church one hour before the gala begins. There is no serving or clean up involved. This is a great way to complete that last hour of volunteer hours before the end of the school year. • A volunteer is needed to take charge of ordering pizza and buying soda/water for the National Honor Society workers who are setting up for the Gala. The students will again have their dinner at 4:00 PM in a room at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church  and then go to their training with the Sinclair culinary. Contact Mrs. Green at suzanne.green@dominionacademy.org if you would like to volunteer to oversee the care and feeding these hardworking students.

• An 8th grade or high school student volunteer is needed to work concessions at intermission for the Friday, April 20 Drama Workshop performance. DA Bots Competition Team News

DA Uniforms

Here are a few ways to save money on the DA school uniforms:

• All orders placed at a kiosk located in the Lands’ End department at Sears qualify for Free Shipping.

• Lands’ End will be having sales throughout the spring and summer. Order the sale items at the Sears Lands’ End kiosk to save money AND eliminate the shipping fees.
• Don’t forget to look at area thrift stores for serviceable navy blue, khaki, and black slacks and skirts. These items are not required to be embroidered with the DA logo and tend to be long wearing.

• All old style DA uniforms can be worn until they are no longer serviceable.

• If families have DA uniforms that no longer fit their students and there are no other family members who are in line to receive the uniform, consider giving the uniforms to another family who still has enrolled DA students.

Iowa Testing

The IOWA Make-up Test Day is Friday, April 13 beginning at 8:30 a.m. If students have missed the any of the previous two, days they are required to come to the make-up test day in order to have the IOWA submitted for scoring.

Martial Arts News

Congratulations, Dominion Academy karate students.  Congratulations to everyone who passed their test, and especially to the new brown belts, Jaclyn Schmitz and Will Herman, and the new black belt Daniel Carson. Michael Evanhoe, Joel Akers, and  Aiden Scanlon also did a great job!

School Uniform Money Saving Ideas

Here are a few ways to save money on the DA school uniforms:

• All orders placed at a kiosk located in the Lands’ End department at Sears qualify for Free Shipping.
• Lands’ End will be having sales throughout the summer. Check the DA Lands’ End Website  to save money  on the purchase of new DA uniforms for the 2012-2013 school year. Take advantage of these sales and order the items at the Sears Lands’ End kiosk to save money AND eliminate the shipping fees. Here are a few examples of items that are on sale right now:

• Don’t forget to look at area thrift stores for serviceable navy blue, khaki, and black slacks and skirts. These items are not required to be embroidered with the DA logo and tend to be long wearing.
• All old style DA uniforms can be worn until they are no longer serviceable.
• If families have DA uniforms that no longer fit their students,and there are no other family members who are in line to receive the uniform, consider giving the uniforms to another family who still has enrolled DA students.

• Re-enrollment appointments for the 2012-2013 school year for current students have begun. Please contact Mrs. Green at 224-8555 as soon as possible to schedule your returning student. New enrollments appointments will begin on April 9.

• Thursday, March 22 is the end of the 3rd quarter. Grade cards will be mailed out on March 30.

• Easter Break is April 2-April 6

Iowa Testing

The first test date is this Friday, March 23 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The second test date is Friday, March 30 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Students are expected to attend testing on both days.

Additional IOWA Information:

• Students should begin to arrive at DA at 8:15 each of these Friday mornings.
• Testing for grades 3-8 should  should completed by noon or 12:30pm on both days.
• Testing for grades 9-11 should be completed by 11:00am on both days
• Please be prompt in picking up your student.
  

What to bring:

• two no. 2 pencils
• calculator
• a water bottle and a simple, healthy snack

What not to bring:

• I-pods or any other music listening device
• laptops
• electronic devices of any kind
• Cell phones are permitted but will need to handed in to the proctor before testing begins.

Martial Arts – The Ultimate Test!

Come and support all of our martial arts student as they take the most advanced martial arts tests ever held at Dominion Academy and demonstrate their techniques. The testing will be held on Tuesday, March 27 beginning at 2:30 pm for beginner ranks and 3:45 pm for advance ranks. Daniel Carson is testing for his black belt. Jaclyn Schmitz and Will Herman are both testing for their brown belt.

Christ the King Holy Week Services

The WiSTEM Institute is a week of fun, hands-on activiites relating to the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. • Please note the 2012 dress code for the senior ball.
  – Tuxedos are encouraged, but guys may wear suits and ties in lieu of tuxedos.
  – Gowns should not reveal cleavage, be too tight, nor should gowns be backless. Gowns should hit below the knee with no slits hitting above the knee.
  – There will be a monitor for dress code violations. Anyone who does not meet the dress code will not be allowed to enter the ball until they have corrected their attire.
  – If a student is unsure if her dress will meet dress code standards, she may bring her dress to school for approval by Mrs. Lecklider, Mrs. McNamara, or Dss Caldwell.

• Any senior wishing to bring a guest to the ball must be sure to complete the Guest Policy and Commitment Form by May 16.

Women in STEM Institute Opportunity

Calling all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade girls! Sinclair Community College is offering a Women in STEM Program. The WiSTEM Institute is a week of fun, hands-on activiites relating to the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each day students will participate in lab sessions that will cover a wide variety of skills and knowledge. At the 2012 WiSTEM Institute, participants will explore the science and technology behind mobile phones and discuss their global impacts. W.I.S.E. Program Presentation

On Thursday, March 15 from 7:30am until 8:15am, the Montgomery Co. Prosecutor’s Office W.I.S.E. Program will be presenting a mini seminar to DA students  in grades 7-12 on how to stay safe while using the internet.
